Andrew McKenzie will be appointed the inaugural Chief Executive of Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities, Board Chair Sir Brian Roche announced today.

On 1 October 2019, the three agencies that build and provide homes – Housing New Zealand, its subsidiary HLC, and the KiwiBuild Unit – will come together to form Kāinga Ora. This new Crown agency will be responsible for contributing to thriving communities, with a diverse mix of public, affordable and market housing.

He has the experience, leadership skills and strategic thinking to lead Kāinga Ora as it takes on the challenge of transforming the delivery of housing and urban development in New Zealand.”

Andrew McKenzie’s selection follows an extensive independent search process. His appointment will be ratified by the Kāinga Ora Board on 1 October 2019 and he will start the role of Chief Executive with effect from then.

Andrew has been Chief Executive of Housing New Zealand since 2016. He has extensive executive experience in local government and the construction sector.
