Community and Public Housing

HUD works to deliver more public housing, transitional housing, and services to tackle homelessness in New Zealand. We also monitor community housing initiatives like retirement villages.

To do this, we partner with Housing New Zealand, community housing providers, developers, social services, councils and other agencies.

Public housing

More and more people need public housing. We work with the wider housing sector to deliver more public and transitional housing across New Zealand.

Increasing public housing

Support for people in need

People who are homeless often need intensive support to help them find and stay in housing, and get their lives on track.

Our housing and support initiatives, including Housing First, aim to help end homelessness, and allow people to stay safely housed.

We work with Housing New Zealand, community housing providers, developers, social services, councils and others to fund and deliver more:

  • public housing
  • transitional housing, and
  • services to tackle homelessness.

We've developed a strategic partnering model to guide how we partner with other agencies and housing providers to meet demand.
