Earlier this winter, the Pastor of Empower Church in Christchurch offered a three year lease on a five bedroom home he owned in central Christchurch to transitional housing provider Fale Pasifika o Aoraki (Fale Pasifika).
The organisation is the first Pasifika transitional housing provider in the area, and this home is their first Christchurch property.
It was important to the Pastor that the property was used to help those who need it the most, and he was impressed with the work Fale Pasifika was doing in the community.
The property has a beautiful fenced section and is perfect for large families in need of transitional housing in the area. Fale Pasifika manages the property, and also provides support services to families who live there.
The family currently living in the home has five young children. Before moving into the home, the family of seven was living in terribly overcrowded conditions – sharing a two bedroom apartment with two other extended family members, and all sleeping in the lounge.
At the opening ceremony on 31 August, the Pastor and his wife attended and blessed the property. They are happy to see it being used by a family who is greatly benefitting from having a home to live in that meets their needs, while they are supported to find more permanent housing.
