Public housing
Public housing is rental accommodation for people who can't afford to live in a private rental, so the government pays a portion of rent. These houses may be run by a community housing provider (CHP) or by Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities.
To live in public housing, you'll need to meet criteria for age, residency, housing need, and income and assets. You'll also need to wait until a suitable property is available.
