This new dashboard provides a monthly summary about the delivery of social homes funded from Budget 2024 and Budget 2025. Progress on Māori housing delivery is based on funding allocated since December 2023.
It provides a summary on social housing delivery as of 30 June 2026. It provides a summary of Māori housing delivery as of 31 May 2025.
It shows a regional breakdown of how many homes are:
- approved
- contracted
- delivered
- expected.
The dashboard has been updated to provide greater visibility of progress through the housing delivery pipeline. Approved homes are now shown as either approved (planning) or approved (under construction), giving a clearer view of where projects are in the delivery process.
These updates improve transparency of delivery progress while maintaining existing reporting on approved, delivered and expected homes.
Budget 2024: social housing
Budget 2024 allocated $140 million for a total of 1500 new social homes, to be delivered over two financial years (2025/26 and 2026/27) to be operated by community housing providers. Around 500 homes are allocated through the maintaining momentum pathway and around 1000 homes are mainly being delivered by strategic partners or through a community-led approach.
Budget 2025: social housing in Auckland
Budget 2025 committed new funds to deliver around 550 to 600 new social homes in Auckland in the 2025/26 financial year. The homes are to be operated by community housing providers (including strategic partners) and be ready for tenanting by November 2026.
Māori housing
Since December 2023, $426 million has been approved (in three tranches) for Māori-led delivery of around 1000 homes. The new homes are a range of papakāinga housing, affordable rentals and owner-occupied housing.
