Support for people in need
Our housing and support initiatives, including Housing First, aim to help end homelessness and help people to stay safely housed.
Housing helps build better lives
Warm, dry, and secure housing along with the right support services helps people build better lives.
People in need should be able to access housing support for as long as needed. Once housed, they're in a better position to focus on other aspects of their lives, like:
- finding work
- engaging in education or training
- contributing to their communities, or
- accessing medical care.
The complex issue of homelessness
Homelessness is often connected with complex issues in a person's life. Those with the most complex needs and behaviours find it difficult to hold onto stable housing, putting them at risk of homelessness.
With stable housing and tailored support, people can:
- gain control over their lives
- be safer and healthier, and
- stay in school or work.
There is no one solution to ending homelessness. We partner with Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities, providers, councils, and the wider housing sector to provide help to those in need.
