Public housing

Public housing is rental accommodation for people who can't afford to live in a private rental, so the Government pays a portion of rent. These houses may be run by a Community Housing Provider (CHP), or by Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities.

To live in public housing, you'll need to meet criteria for age, residency, housing need, and income and assets. You'll also need to wait until a suitable property is available.
