Social housing provider delivery dashboard for January 2026 released

This dashboard provides a monthly summary about the delivery of social and Māori homes funded from Budget 2024 and Budget 2025.

Community Housing Providers have delivered 308 new social homes, with a further 1,830 approved in the pipeline. Almost 90% of these are one‑ or two‑bedroom homes, and 18% are designed to be accessible.

Delivery expectations for Māori housing remain steady, with 112 homes delivered to date and 739 contracted in the pipeline. Some changes in regional distribution reflect updated delivery plans from one of the larger iwi prototypes.

The next dashboard will be published in early March 2026.

This dashboard focuses on the delivery of social and Māori homes funded from Budget 2024 and Budget 2025. For the delivery of Māori homes, it focuses on funding since December 2023.

Funding pathways

Social housing

Budget 2024 allocated $140 million for a total of 1500 new social homes, to be delivered over two financial years (2025/26 and 2026/27) to be operated by community housing providers. Around 500 homes are allocated through the maintaining momentum pathway, and around 1000 homes are mainly being delivered by strategic partners or through a community-led approach.

Social housing in Auckland

Budget 2025 committed new funds to deliver around 550 to 600 new social homes in Auckland in the 2025/26 financial year. The homes are to be operated by community housing providers (including strategic partners) and be ready for tenanting by November 2026.

Māori housing

Since December 2023, $426 million has been approved (in three tranches) for Māori-led delivery of around 1000 homes. The new homes are a range of papakāinga housing, affordable rentals, and owner-occupied housing.
